Intra-University Mechanics Olympiad

The faculty of Science & Engineering (FSE) of International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) is set to host a vibrant Tech Fest-2023 at its own campus in Kumira, Chittagong on September 23, 2023 to September 27, 2023. A competition titled Inter University Mechanics Olympiad will take place on 25 September,2023 as part of IIUC Tech Fest 2023. Students of IIUC are invited to participate in this competition.

I. Syllabus for Mechanics Olympiad

Part A: Introduction to Mechanics
What is Mechanics? Introduction to Sl units; The concepts of a rigid body; Definitions and concepts of forces; Components of force & Classification of force systems. Free body diagrams Definition and Procedure for drawing FBD; Two force members, Gravitation force; Reactions at supports and connections & Smooth surface.

Part B: Coplanar forces
Resultant of coplanar concurrent forces; Equilibrium of 3-forces; Joint to Joint method Moments of forces; Varignons theorem; Resultant & equilibrium of coplanar parallel forces and Couples and. Torque.

Part C: Noncurrent non-parallel coplanar forces and non-coplanar forces
Resultant of a general coplanar force system; Equilibrium of a general coplanar forces system; Trusses and Method of sections; Pin connected frames, Concurrent force in space; Couples in space. Non-coplanar parallel, non-concurrent, non-parallel forces in space.

Part D : Friction
Frictional forces; Limiting frictional forces; Coefficient of kinetic friction. Angle of friction; Wedge & Belt friction.

II. Exam Details
Step 1- Preliminary Exam
Question type- (MCQ+ Fill in the blanks/ one word substitution)
Exam Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes. [ 11;00 am-12:30 pm]
Venue: Civil Engineering Department, Academic Building-5
Step 2: Final Exam
Question type: Written question
Duration- 1 hour.
Venue: Civil Engineering Department, Academic Building-5
** 1st, 2nd and 3rd will be selected according to the preliminary and final results.

III. Awards and Recognition
Awards: Mechanics Olympiad 2023 will offer Crest and Certificate for First, Second and Third. Stay updated with the event announcements for details.

IV. Intra University Tech Olympiad Rules and Regulations:

1. Eligibility:
• Participants must be currently enrolled students (Undergraduate) at IIUC.
• Participants must bring a university-valid ID card and be well dressed up.

2. Code of Conduct:
• All participants must adhere to a code of conduct, promoting respectful and ethical behavior throughout the event.
• Any form of cheating or dishonesty will result in disqualification.

3. Disqualification:
• Teams may be disqualified for failing to meet deadlines, violating rules, or engaging in misconduct.

4. Event Changes:
• Event organizers reserve the right to modify rules, guidelines, or event details as needed.

5. Exam Rules and Regulations:
• The exam will be in MCQ format and Written format conducted in 2 phases (Preliminary phase and final phase).
